Combining metal’s strength and energy and merging it with sometimes fierce, sometimes intimistic melodies: with this idea Vakan was founded in 2010 in the city of Santa Maria/RS, Brazil.

After some gigs and line-up changings, Lucas Oliveira (drums) and Alexandre Marinho (guitars) would join Guma Streb (guitars), Carlos Schmitt (bass) and Matheus Oliveira (vocals) in the following year. Influenced by bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween and Angra, the quintet rapidly produced and recorded their first studio work, the EP Freeze!, from 2012, which received positive reviews. A couple of shows later, Streb departs from the band that performed as a quartet until the end of that year. During a two-year hiatus from the stage, Schmitt also leaves.

In the course of time, while writing the songs which would feature their first album, Vakan started to grow more mature musically, assimilating other metal subgenres and genres apart from metal, such as elements from the Latin American and Platine American folk music. In 2015, the band releases the single and lyric video Diary Of P. Stuart with Gregory Ferreira on the bass guitar, who was soon after substituted by Carlos Maximiliano who, in his turn, left the band after two years, after the album recording.

Later, in the end of 2017, after more line-up changes throughout the years, the trio ─ Alexandre Marinho, Lucas Oliveira and Matheus Oliveira ─ is joined by the bassist Natanael Couto, this being the line-up of Vagabond, Vakan’s debut album released in October 2018. The band has received several positive reviews on account of Vagabond, in which is also being taken as one of the most promising Brazilian metal bands of the year. In 2019, Vakan became a quintet with the addition of keyboardist Isabel Leal.

Vakan is:

Alexandre Marinho – Guitars
Isabel Leal – Keyboards
Lucas Oliveira – Drums
